The Urban Rustic Movement

Monday, June 18th, 2012

I’m loving this urban rustic movement lately. Rustic on white – a perfect harmony to build character to your home without the clutter. I’m big on visuals, and small on words, let this beautiful home explain this movement to you.

The Boutique Wine Maker

Sunday, February 26th, 2012

Chris Weylandts has a beautiful eye, and over the years, created the epitome of  understated luxury in his furniture curation for his Weylandts showroom. His wine estate has recently been the buzz of Franschoek, and I could not resist but to trek into the winelands and see the beauty myself.

Maison Estate wine farm decor

The Maison Estate’s wine is fairly young and have already received recognition by receiving a few wine awards. The Estate, is a quaint farm that doesn’t boast commercial sizes in production. This makes them the boutique wine makers in Franschoek. I was most curious about the décor of the Restaurant – The Kitchen at Maison which was renovated by Van Der Merwe Miszewski Architects, and the décor was of course to the standards to Chris Weylandts.

Nordic Furniture

My expectations were indeed quite high, and upon entering, I was rather intrigued, as the 1900’s cottage establishment was left raw on the outside. However,  it’s rough exteriors certainly drew me like a magnet.

Organic Farm Decor

How amazing is this place? Like his showrooms, every element of the décor is meticulously placed.

I soaked this beauty in, and had a wine tasting in a less conventional way – around a Weylandts dining table :)

Home of Colours & Prints

Roland Bello is an extremely talented photographer. His portfolio consists of a stunning range of images that are set in more unique spaces. The pictures of this home really described the mood for MIKU – nothing out of the ordinary.

MIKU living room

This space has that scandinavian touch to it. The owner of this apartment has a stunning array of colours and shapes that I admire.

For those out there that love colourful places, I would highly recommend this post as an inspiration. The owner has invested in colourful pieces, yet toned the additional pieces around the brights to make it easy on the eye.

Li Edelkoort’s home in Paris

Monday, August 29th, 2011

I’m a huge fan of Li Edelkoort. She is one of the most influential experts in the design industry. Her company  Trend Union, acts as a trend forecasting agency which has provided guidance on branding and concepts to many international labels. Many designers find inspiration through her colour forecasts, where she gathers trending of colours and textures through her collection of natural finds. I’ve always been curious about her home and was beyond excited when I found it here. Her home in Paris is truly inspirational.

The colours and textures are fine blends of luxury in natural materials. I love they way she has perfected the art of refining old elements and placing these pieces into her modern space.

Inspirational Home

I absolutely love the flow of the entire space. There is nothing pretentious in this setting, all naturally beautiful, yet functional.

Her collection of smaller pieces bring colours and patterns to the natural ambience flowing throughout the space.

A Splash of Bright in the Midst of Neutrals

Monday, August 22nd, 2011

I’m a huge fan of neutral tones. The tones are timeless and thus happily ever after pieces. Once those core pieces are collected, it’s time for a splash of fun, and signing the space off with a quirky bright colour.

Any accessory can be transformed to become a decor piece. Even a cute mid night blue slouch bag has done the trick in the image above.

The yellow lamp below is a dear little fellow! I absolutely love the placement in this scene, simply stylish yet tasteful.

Colours and Textures with Kate Spade

Monday, July 11th, 2011

There is a well known statement with interiors which is “less is more”. Personally, I do love uncluttered interiors, and love that pure karma that comes along with it.  The “less is more” philosophy works for those that prefer it, and that kind of concept is easy to achieve. One, keep to your neutrals. Two, store nearly everything away.

One misunderstanding that comes from the “Less is More” concept is that colours, textures and patterns cause the clutter. That misconception is often true since the art of mixing colours, patterns and texture is a true art. While I was pondering on this, I was thinking who could inspire colours. And as soon as colours and patterns came into my mind, I thought of Kate Spade’s clothing range. I did a bit of snooping on her and was lucky enough to find images of the designer’s apartment in the big apple here.

Kate Spade's Apartment

Kate Spade’s home is a perfect example of how conventional laws of colours and patterns can be broken, and put together in a way that unique personality flaunts around the entire space.

I found these images really inspirational. I love the bold colours, interesting patterns mixed with stunning classic silhouettes. Kate Spade launched a beautiful bedding range this year (see them here), as well as a few homeware pieces.

White Decor Fix

Sunday, July 3rd, 2011

Today I bring you to the home of photographer, Birgitta Wolfgang Drejer’s home. Birgitta has accumulated a stunning portfolio of stunning homes. She hasn’t released any images of her own home until recently. All images released have been taken by the photographer herself.

I call this piece the white decor fix because I’ve had to say this serveral times: “Hi my name is Cindy, and I’m an absolute white spaces junkie“. I have been mocked by a friend who has often told me that I will deprive colours for my future seedlings, which may potentially inhibit their mental growth.. eeeek! But this beautiful home reinforces my addiction to white spaces, you can’t not love it!?!

The home’s entire mood is absolutely dreamy. Modern, yet inviting, and holds key pieces that builds character to the space.
