Here’s a brilliant idea for a little playhouse, somwhere to get lost with your favourite toy, or even your favourite book perhaps?

The Obelisk Terrarium

Friday, June 15th, 2012

I’ve always admired many shapes and sizes for terrariums, but this obelisk shaped terrarium is somewhat most unique in many ways. Meg Myers has a collection of recylced glass terrariums and objects for the home. See her etsy link here.

[DIY] Urban Floors

Friday, November 4th, 2011

One thing I really envy is wooden flooring. I love the orignal colonial solid wooden floors. The sound of the creaks – even when you tip toe around with socks on, or the sound of dogs’ paws gently tapping on the floors. Today’s DIY inspiration is for those that love the urban Scandanavian inspirations and wooden floors.

Scandinavian Decor

This might take much patience with stencils and paint. One could also consider using decal cut outs for a small space like an entrance hall. The decals could function as temporary changes or to test if you like the look. Contact me if you’re looking for decals, I could get them cut to spec for you :)

Loving this!! Happy Friday :)

[DIY] Urban Trash Bag

Friday, October 28th, 2011

The original plan for today’s post was for the halloween decor project with my niece and nephew’s involvement. The little nephew is currently at his terrible two stage, and gracefully scrunched up my bats with his tiny little hands. He quickly fixed it by giving my the biggest naughty grin – which I’m a sucker of, and managed to melt me away. However, the skew hanging bats are not making it on the headlines of MIKU today :p

Have a look at this beautiful studio table. The little pieces of decor that bring this space together is absolutely amazing.

Here is where I spotted the most practical trash bag I’ve ever seen. So simple, and yet it plays such an important element in portraying the mood and lifestyle. I love it.

Print you own brown paperbag, and match stripes/colours/patterns to your hearts desire. Happy Friday everyone ♥

[DIY] Less than Ordinary Halloween

Friday, October 14th, 2011

I’ve been spending quite a lot of time with my cousin’s beautiful children, Audrey and Enoch. Yesterday, it was at Enoch’s first swimming lesson. He’s around the age of two, and is the dearest little braveheart. With no hesitation, he calmly stood at the edge of the pool, and made a huge jump right into the arms of the instructor who was waiting for him inside the pool. It was one of those “tear in my eye” moments.

I’d really love to do something special for them this halloween, and got a few inspirations that can make any child or adult enjoy a little Halloween fun.

Halloween Buntings

A simple bunting could give that halloween character to the room. Buntings are really simple to make, and the effect is usually stunning. See here for full instructions.

Halloween Decor IdeasHalloween creatures suspended from the ceiling with strings is also a fun idea. The kids will absolutely enjoy painting or colouring the little creatures in. I’ve chosen this printable template to use, as it’s more of a child friendly template, otherwise theres plenty more that is available online.

For Audrey and Enoch, I’d like to use the image below as an inspiration for colour and decor. I love the softness in this mood, it creates a fun energy around decorating, rather than a gloomy approach.

Halloween candy decorThe types of candy used and labelled is very clever. It would be a lot of fun, and bring out their creativity to label their jars of halloween candy.

I wish you all a happy planning for Halloween.

[DIY] Love your headboard

Friday, September 30th, 2011

When you have a taste for unique things, you find it difficult to fill things to your taste’s desire. This is why I love these Friday posts. These inspirations inspire me to make my home a place that is uniquely mine. Many people purchase a bed, and don’t see the point to fuss about improving their headboards that was either an hand-me-down or horrid tastes from their ignorant youth. It is understandable to a certain extent, as headboards can make a dent in the bank. Here are a few cost effective ideas to love your headboard again.

I absolutely love this idea. as simple as printing prints on a large canvas board. The image printed on the idea above looks absolutely devine in this kind of space.

The idea of using wooden planks has also crossed my mind. These images have also reinforced my love for industrial side lamps. The wooden shabby chic doors make a beautiful statement too. For those living in Cape Town, these doors are abundant in Woodstock. Have you found you inspiration?

[DIY] Sir Paul Smith Inspired Timepiece

Thursday, September 1st, 2011

I had previously written a post on a DIY timepiece idea which can be viewed here. Yesterday Cape Town had its first Spring day. I had big ambitions to do some replanting outdoors, but that plan was washed away by sprouts of our Spring rain after a few pots were completed.

Feeling agitated from a “half-done” project, I dug around looking for previous treasures that I had kept aside, and found my piece of wood that I had been saving for the timepiece. I spent some time  putting the pieces together, and I was very happy with the outcome. What do you think?

This mini project was such a simple project. Hope it inspires you to make your limited edition timepiece. I literally enjoyed every second of this “tick tocking” project!

[DIY] Stool-Shelf

Thursday, August 25th, 2011

How cute is this idea? A stool as a shelf? Whether solo, or put next to each other as a pair, this idea made me smile? What a genius!

[DIY] Timepiece

Friday, July 29th, 2011

I kicked off my shoes, sank into my couch and reflected on what to do next… while looking at each item I’ve curated so far, an annoying ticking sound kept robbing by chain of thoughts in it’s tick tock hum that soon turned into a voice: “not, nice, not, nice”

And there is was. My very next project. Surgically dissemble my clock, reuse it’s vital organs in a complete new face :) and this is the picture that I’ve used as inspiration for my “after” surgery picture.

DIY clock

While taking advantage of this sale season, I roamed into Country Road (V&A Waterfront) and saw that they were using slices of trunks as part of their visual merchandising. With some bargaining skills, I managed to persuade the manager to let me have a few. The large piece is to become the clock, and the little pieces to be used as a placement pieces for my glass vases.

Making a clock is really simple. If you don’t wish to recycle your current clock, you can get the clock mechanism quite easily, use your own silhouette or base, and join the pieces together. See detailed instructions on how to place the pieces together here.

Happy Friday tick-tocking!
